Tip of the Week
Most people who have never had a connection to the law before have an inclination
to trust police officers. To that end, when a parent learns that their
child may have committed a criminal offense they want the child to be
honest and tell them to be honest about what they have done. Honesty may
be the best policy in most situations, but sometimes remaining silent
is an even better policy. Never let your child talk to police without
an attorney present. Even if your child is under the age of 18 they could
be charged as an adult for certain crimes or they can be charged as a
juvenile and still be placed in a secured detention facility. Always remain
silent until you have had an opportunity to speak to an attorney to let
you know how to best proceed in any given situation.
